I’m Raquel—a physician-scientist in training, enthusiastic home cook, and mountain lover. Unprescribed is where I bring those parts of my life together.
a place for food and curiosity
I spend a lot of time thinking about evidence: what a study can tell us, what it leaves unanswered, and how research might translate into a person’s everyday life. I also spend a lot of time thinking about what to make for dinner. This space makes room for both.
Here, I’m sharing recipes I love alongside ideas about nourishment, culinary medicine, and integrative health. Sometimes that means a closer look at research. Sometimes it means a batch of cookies and a reason to step away from the keyboard.
what you’ll find here
“find something to cook” is the recipe side of Unprescribed: favorite dishes, baking projects, and the notes that make a recipe my own.
“explore nourishing ideas” is where I ask questions about food, medicine, and well-being. I’ll distinguish personal perspective from research, link to sources, and leave room for uncertainty.
the bigger picture
My interests include integrative medicine and the role of nutrition and lifestyle in cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship. As my training develops, I want to explore those subjects thoughtfully, with respect for the complexity of people’s needs and experiences.
There’s also life beyond the plate: movement, time outside, rest, and connection. I’m interested in what makes a life feel nourished, as well as what makes a meal worth sharing.
Welcome. I hope you find something delicious, something interesting, or a question you want to keep thinking about.
